How do I program an Individual Cover button (Primary / Secondary) on a phone?

Coverage allows a call ringing at one extension (a sender) to ring at another extension (a receiver) at the same time and to be answered at either extension. It is not necessary for the sender and receiver to have shared personal lines or Shared System Access buttons.

Programming Codes:

Primary Cover *40 and extension number of sender
Secondary Cover *41 and extension number of sender

Use the procedure below to program individual coverage buttons:

On an Analog multiline phone:

  1. Slide the T/P switch on the left-hand side of the telephone down to the P (Programming) position to enter programming mode.
  2. Press the button you want to program and dial the appropriate code as listed above.
  3. Slide the T/P switch back to the center to exit programming mode.

On an ETR, MLS or MLX phone:

  1. Press Feature or # and dial 00 to enter programming mode.
  2. Press the button you want to program and dial the appropriate code as listed above.
  3. Press Feature or # and dial *00 to exit programming mode.

On an MLX display phone:

  1. Press Menu to enter programming mode.
  2. Press Ext Program.
  3. Press Start and then press the button you want to program. If a feature is already administered on the button, press Delete to remove that feature.
  4. Press the button again.
  5. Press List Feature and select the feature to be programmed. If the desired feature is not a choice, press More or Right Arrow Key until the feature is displayed.
  6. Once you have located the feature, press the button next to it and then press Enter.
  7. Press Exit or Back.
  8. Press Home or Exit to exit programming mode.
